November 2020 Annual Disease Screening Results
ALL FINAL RESULTS WERE NEGATIVE.
We sent blood for CAE, brucellosis, and Johnes to NCVDL (an AAVDL accredited lab).
Everything returned negative with one exception, a positive Johnes ELISA on Eureka. I knew clinically that this must be a false positive as this doeling was taller than most of the yearlings the last show we attended when she was 9 months old and she was already 106 lbs at just under 10 months old, but obtaining proof that the ELISA was a false positive and that this doeling was indeed negative for Johnes was a priority.
So NCVDL sent the same serum sample that had the positive ELISA to Texas A&M (also AAVDL accredited) for an AGID, which returned a negative result. I also sent stool for a PCR directly to Texas A&M, and those results were also negative. The lab director at NCVDL agrees that the positive ELISA is probably a cross-reaction to something else, such a poultry-specific mycoplasma since we have free range chickens and ducks. All of the animals on our property including the birds are healthy with no sign of infectious disease or illness.
If you have questions or concerns regarding any of these results, please feel free to contact me directly.

We also sent serum to UBRL once again for CL screening and are happy to report that the entire herd was negative.
